Ledger® Live — Login & Getting Started with Ledger®

Ledger® Live is the official app for interacting with your Ledger hardware wallet. It provides a secure interface for account management, transactions, staking, portfolio tracking, and app updates—while ensuring your private keys remain on the device.

Overview

Ledger® Live is designed to be the single point of interaction for Ledger hardware wallet users. The desktop and mobile apps simplify everyday wallet tasks while preserving the gold-standard security model: keys never leave the secure element in your device. Ledger® Live supports dozens of blockchains and thousands of tokens through native integrations and partner services.

Who should use Ledger® Live?

  • Individuals who want a secure, user-friendly way to manage non-custodial crypto assets.
  • Developers and power users who require advanced account options and exportable data.
  • Institutional or team users who need auditable workflows and integration possibilities.

Key benefits

  • Security-first: Signing occurs on-device with explicit user confirmation.
  • Comprehensive: Manage multiple accounts across Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many altcoins.
  • Integrated services: Built-in swaps, staking, and partner apps for liquidity and yield.
  • Cross-platform: Desktop and mobile apps with synchronized read-only views (private keys remain on the device).

Login & Setup

Ledger® Live does not use traditional passwords to access private keys. Instead, access is granted by connecting and unlocking your Ledger device and, when applicable, entering your PIN or passphrase on the device itself.

Initial setup (new users)

  1. Download Ledger® Live from the official Ledger website.
  2. Install and open the app, then select "Initialize as new device" if you purchased a new Ledger hardware wallet.
  3. Follow on-screen steps to verify your device, set a PIN, and write down your recovery phrase. Store the recovery phrase offline and never share it.

Login for existing users

To access your accounts, connect your Ledger device and enter your PIN when prompted on the device. If you use a passphrase, enter it on-device or use a secure input method. Ledger® Live creates a local profile that references your hardware device; this profile does not contain private keys.

Tip: Use a dedicated, trusted machine for setup and avoid public or shared computers when initializing a new device.

Sending & Receiving Crypto

Ledger® Live provides a step-by-step flow for sending and receiving assets. The app builds the transaction and displays a preview, but you must confirm transaction details on the Ledger device screen before signing.

Receive

To receive funds, create or select an account in Ledger® Live, click Receive, then connect your device to display the receiving address on-device. Verify that the address shown in the app matches the address on your device before sharing it with senders.

Send

To send funds, compose the transaction in Ledger® Live, review the fees and total amount, then confirm the transaction on your Ledger device. The device shows the destination address and amount for you to verify—never sign if details differ or look suspicious.

Security & Best Practices

Ledger’s security model centers on the secure element in the hardware device and verified firmware updates. Combine hardware protections with user best practices to maximize safety.
